Smart Home Moving Tips

Moving homes can be one of the most stressful events in your life. It feels like everything can go wrong and once you do start moving, you find out that many of those things actually do go wrong and ruin something that should be a fun and exciting time in your life. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to minimize the risks and to have the best possible moving experience.

1) Plan in advance

There is nothing that invites moving disasters as strongly as not planning things out in advance. In advance does not mean a day or two before you need to leave your old house. In advance means weeks or even months in advance. Make an inventory of everything you have. Try and decide what you want to take with you to your new place. Make sure you organize all the help you will need and try and get some time off work so you can dedicate yourself to the move completely.

2) Throw out everything you do not need

Many people have the tendency to form attachments to certain objects that are absolutely worthless. Sure, sometimes this can be because of some emotional connection, but for the most part, people just want to ensure that they are not throwing out anything they might need and they end up taking all kinds of unwanted and unnecessary things with them when they move houses. Be cold and objective when thinking about what you want to bring with you to your new place. If you are not sure about a sofa or a chair, then you most probably do not like it that much and you can leave it behind.

3) Find high quality packing boxes

No matter how small your previous home might have been and no matter how small or big your family may be, you will need a ton of boxes in which to put your stuff so you can bring it over to your new place. It is of huge importance to have high quality packing supplies which will not tear the moment you fill them with your things, or even worse, in the middle of the move. If you are going second-hand with your boxes, make sure to fortify them with some duct tape that will hold them together stronger.

4) Put labels on boxes

This is one thing many people forget all about when moving. When you are putting stuff in the boxes, it seems like unnecessary work to label the boxes. In the shuffle of the move, however, you will lose track of where everything is and you will end up unpacking all 24 boxes before you find the one where your pillows are so you can sleep. This can be very annoying and can be avoided by simply writing down the contents of the box on the box.

5) Hire movers

If it is not going to totally ruin you, hire movers when moving homes. These people are professionals and they do an incredible job, every single time. You will not believe how organized and strong these guys are. For example, it is not uncommon for a single guy to carry an entire fridge down five flights of stairs as if it was nothing. They also know everything about proper packing and transportation of your things.
